What’s So Cool about Photoshop 25.0

Adobe has unveiled Photoshop 25.0, a fresh beta iteration of its image manipulation and digital painting software. This new release incorporates another tool derived from Firefly, Adobe's generative AI toolkit.

Known as "Generative Expand," this tool employs AI to stretch images beyond their existing boundaries, resulting in an extension of the picture.

Concurrently, Adobe has also rolled out Photoshop 24.7, the most recent stable version, which is primarily geared toward resolving various bugs.

In the context of Photoshop 25.0, the Generative Expand tool is the latest addition from Adobe's Firefly generative AI toolkit. The integration of Firefly into Photoshop's beta versions commenced in May with the introduction of Generative Fill. This feature empowers users to select a portion of an image for replacement and then input a textual description of the desired generated content. Photoshop subsequently generates AI-driven content as a distinct layer.

Distinctly, Generative Expand is designed for extending images outward, rather than filling them in. Instead of replacing a segment of an image, this tool elongates the existing image's borders. Users can utilize the Crop tool to extend the canvas and provide a textual description of the envisioned new background. Like before, AI-generated content is added non-destructively as a new layer.

In the case of Photoshop 24.7, it is notable that Adobe has assigned a distinct version number to a beta release for the first time. Meanwhile, the stable Photoshop 24.7 release concentrates on addressing issues reported by customers. Notably, these bug fixes encompass improvements for problems such as lagging Liquify and other filters on macOS.
