πŸ‘€ Mixed Reactions to Google's Gemini Launch

Google's new AI model, Gemini, faced criticism when a Machine Learning engineer, Santiago, tweeted about an allegedly misleading demo video that garnered millions of impressions on social media.

The video showcased Gemini answering questions about images, but it was later revealed that the demonstration was not in real-time, raising doubts about the model's actual capabilities.

Gemini's claim of outperforming human experts on the MMLU benchmark sparked debate, with some pointing out that certain prompting techniques were used, potentially putting it behind both human experts and GPT-4.

While frustrations and criticisms are valid, accusing Google of 'lying' might be overstated, as the video description acknowledged latency adjustments and shortened outputs for the demo.

Gemini extends beyond a singular AI model, featuring distinct versions tailored for various purposes. Gemini Nano, a lightweight variant, is designed for native, offline operation on Android devices. On the other hand, Gemini Pro, a more robust iteration, is set to drive numerous Google AI services and serves as the foundational component of Bard.

Additionally, Gemini Ultra, the most potent Language Model (LLM) from Google to date, appears predominantly engineered for data centers and enterprise applications.
